Non-surgical facial rejuvenation. If you have signs of advanced facial aging, you might consider evaluation by our Top Boston Plastic and Cosmetic surgeons at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital in Cambridge Massachusetts. Unlike many practices or spas with nurse "injectors" or aestheticians, Dr. Helena O. Taylor and Dr. Stephen R. Sullivan personally evaluate you and perform all cosmetic treatments. Using the most advanced techniques and products, they will determine if you are an appropriate candidate for facial volume enhancement or wrinkle reduction. Recommended fill treatments with hyaluronic acid might include products such as Versa ®, Restylane ®, Restylane ® Silk, Restylane ® Lyft, Restylane  Refyne, Restylane  Defyne, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA ® XC, JUVÉDERM ® XC, or JUVÉDERM ® Ultra XC. To remove wrinkles, botulinum toxin such as BOTOX ® Cosmetic or Dysport ®  may be recommended. Each patient is carefully evaluated and if Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sullivan consider you to be a good candidate, they will customize a treatment plan for you.

Soft tissue filler injections with hyaluronic acid (Versa ®, Restylane ®, Restylane ® Silk, Restylane ® Lyft, Restylane ® Refyne, Restylane ® Defyne, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA ® XC, JUVÉDERM ® XC, or JUVÉDERM ® Ultra XC) are also among the most popular minimally invasive procedures performed by plastic surgeons with more than 2 million procedures each year. Fillers are used to restore volume or deflation with sagging skin or depressions. Some areas of the face or body are considered approved by the FDA for filling while others are considered "off-label". Common areas for filler injections are the cheeks or malar regions, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lips, cheeks, temples, jaw line, and the hands.

Some patients may also consider Fat Transfer instead of hyaluronic acid fillers.

Facial Rejuvenation Secrets

Retin A (also now available as a generic). When used at prescription strength, it can significantly improve the fine wrinkles in areas such as the lower eyelids or around the lips.

Preparation H. Yes, the cream used for hemorrhoids! It also works beautifully on the face to reduce postoperative and post-traumatic swelling as well as puffiness or heavy bags of the lower eyelids.

Sunscreen. This is the single most effective way to prevent facial aging and the harmful effects of the sun's radiation. Find a facial lotion that you like (not an expensive one!) and make sure that it includes an SPF. Apply the facial lotion each and every day. Hint: Consumer Reports releases a review of sunscreens a the start of every summer. The best sunscreens may surprise you. This year, Trader Joe's spray sunscreen and Walmart's brand cream both took the top honor with a perfect score of 100, and both have remarkably good value with a cost of approximately $5. Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sullivan have tried them and loved them as much as Consumer Reports. They are also what Dr. Taylor and Dr. Sullivan use on their three young boys.

Pineapple. The fruit contains bromelain, which has been found to reduce postoperative and post-traumatic swelling and bruising.

Arnica. The flower extract has been found to reduce postoperative and post-traumatic swelling and bruising. Dr. Sullivan is particularly fond of the extract from this flower because it can be found blooming in the summer months in his home state, Montana. Arnica can be supplemented orally or used as a topical cream.

Sunglasses. If you're not ready to have an eyelid lift or Botox Cosmetic, hide your tired eyelids! Sunglasses can also protect your eyes from the sun and reduce your squinting and facial strain, which exacerbates the wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.
